Anthony Hopkins will play Sigmund Freud in the new project “Freud’s Last Session”

The 2022 Cannes Film Festival welcomed several notable new projects from around the world. Among the lineup of highly anticipated films, two-time Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins takes on the challenging role of Sigmund Freud. The actor’s next project was launched at Cannes by WestEnd Films and CAA Media Finance.

At Cannes 2022 currently underway in France, a new project named Freud’s Last Seance has been launched which will star Anthony Hopkins as Sigmund Freud, the legendary psychoanalyst. The film is directed by Matthew Brown, known for The man who knew infinitywho will be working on a screenplay by Mark St Germain, known for The God Committee, of the latter’s piece of the same name. The project is funded by WestEnd Films and CAA Media Finance.

The upcoming movie Freud’s Last Seance will see Hopkins take on the role of the legendary psychoanalyst. The plot of the film will take place against the backdrop of World War II and towards the last days of Freud’s life. In the film, we will see Freud invite the emblematic author CS Lewis for a debate on the existence of God. The film will also explore the unique relationship between Freud and his lesbian daughter Anna and Lewis’ unconventional romance with his best friend’s mother. The upcoming film will intertwine the doctor’s past, present, and fantasy and also confine the study of Freud.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The director of the upcoming film, Brown, spoke about the project and mentioned that the film is extremely timely and important. He further added that the upcoming film is moving, thought provoking and creative and asks important but important questions. The film is set to shoot in London in the fourth quarter of this year.

He said, “Beyond my own intellectual curiosity and fondness for this piece, there is a deep appreciation for the incredible importance and timeliness of this film.” “We live in such an ideologically polarized time, where everyone is stuck in their own tribe, with no real dialogue. I want to make a film for all audiences that is moving, thought-provoking and creative. A film that asks the big questions, while exploring what is at the heart of the human condition: love, faith and mortality,” added the director.
