After Progress Pride flag pole vandalized, firefighters fly larger flag in front of City Hall
It’s a message that love always trumps hate.
Following the vandalism of the Progress Pride flagpole in the City of Delta early Wednesday morning, city officials and the Delta Fire Department stepped up to right the terrible wrong.
City staff repaired the Progress Pride flagpole later Wednesday. Then on Thursday morning the firefighters came out and set up a larger Progress Pride flag which was erected on one of their ladder trucks.
“We are grateful for the incredible support from this community,” the Delta Pride Society said in a post on its Facebook page. “Thank you to the City of Delta – local government, Delta Fire Department and Delta Police Department for being an example of what an inclusive community should look like! Love wins.”
Delta Police are investigating Wednesday’s incident.
“There were security cameras in the area, but whoever did this managed to avoid the cameras – so they knew what they were doing,” Delta Coun said. Dylan Kruger. “City staff replaced the flagpole, added more security cameras and added a sign that this area is under surveillance.
“The fire department has been amazing,” Kruger said of what they did on Thursday. “The message is that we are not intimidated by people who spread hate and harassment. If you try to do something like this, we’ll come back bigger and stronger and show that Delta is united and supportive of the LGBTQ2S+ community.
