Lactalis Canada NEXT Ventures will be an annual program with a new theme unveiled each year. The program will begin in 2022 with a focus on finding solutions to reduce waste in all its forms, including but not limited to time, capacity, financial resources, food, processing, packaging, energy and material resources.
Today, Lactalis Canada’s commitment to waste reduction translates into innovative solutions, including a unique collaboration with Ontario-based dairy distillery where the by-product of ultrafiltered milk production called milk permeate (milk sugar) from our Winchester, ON The plant is supplied to the distillery to be transformed into alcohol for its Vodkow and Vodkow Cream spirits. In addition, Lactalis Canada’s wastewater modernization project at its Winchester, ON won the first-ever Canadian Grocer Impact Award 2021 in the Sustainability category. The four-year, multimillion-dollar project completed in 2020 contributed to odor and noise mitigation, a 35% reduction in electricity consumption, fertilizer production and an improved process for wastewater treatment at the plant.
