Sean Archer brings their handmade wooden housewares, furniture and jewelry to downtown Rochester as well as a variety of products from other local manufacturers.

Archer is opening a new boutique on October 7 under its Gnarled woodpecker mark at the lower level of the Riverview Building at 307 E. Center St.

It is the building just before the Center Street Bridge that is best known as the former headquarters of the Rochester Honkers Baseball team.

The concept at the heart of his project is to bring gifts and locally made products to buyers in Med City. Archer will have wood products ranging from soap dishes and earrings to dough scrapers and furniture.

All of his work is done with hand tools, so Archer can sense what “the wood is doing” when working with his vintage hand tools. Customers will be able to watch him work as his workshop is part of the boutique.

“I always want people to come and see it for themselves. I want them to touch things, because wood is different, ”he said.

Although the name is Knotty Woodpecker, the shelves will hold more than just wooden products.

On opening day, the store will feature items from area manufacturers like Rochester’s Jeb Taylor knives, keep moving the clay and CHOOCHOO-ca-Chew as well as based on Winona Wenonah Body Lab soaps and care products.

Archer expects the store to be open Thursday through Saturday.
