Traffic advisory: temporary closure and lane change in block 5200 of avenue de Paris
NEW ORLEANS – City of New Orleans Department of Public Works contractor Beverly Construction Inc. will temporarily close waterway traffic lanes in the 5200 block of Paris Avenue between Monday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. p.m. and Wednesday, October 31 at 5:30 p.m. During this time, river traffic will shift to one of the lakeside traffic lanes on Paris Avenue. This will allow only one lane of automobile traffic in each direction. The closure is necessary to allow drainage work as part of the Gardena Drive construction project (Saint-Bernard Avenue – Paris Avenue).
Residents and businesses in this area were notified of the closure through a neighborhood canvass. Throughout construction, large trucks and heavy equipment will haul materials around the area. Residents and commuters are reminded to exercise caution when driving, cycling and walking near the construction site.
The $7.2 million Gardena Drive project (Saint-Bernard Avenue – Paris Avenue) was designed by Arcadis and is being built by Beverly Construction, Inc. The scope of work varies by block, but includes repairing sewer, water and drainage lines, completely rebuilding the street, and repairing sidewalks and curbs. In general, the contractor works from 7 am until sunset, Monday to Friday. The entire project is expected to be completed by spring 2023, weather permitting.
Since May 2018, DPW has completed 134 projects with an estimated value of $425 million. Today, 57 road works are in progress for an estimated value of nearly $634 million.
