Waffle Smash has teamed up with Lost Files Media and Piper Rockelle’s Squad, an influential content production house with over 20M subscribers, to offer a contest in which players can win a new PS5 or MacBook! Okay, that’s pretty standard, but (and it’s a HUGE “but”), this is HOW they put together the giveaway that is so incredibly unique. The game actually incorporated influencers from Piper Rockelle’s Squad (and a few others including Kendall Greens Instagram with its 8.4 million followers) and put influencers in the game itself.
Unlike the advertising partners of yesteryear who were generally unknown to the general public, in today’s world, advertising partners are often influencers who have a public mark in their name, image and likeness. The ability for a company that hires them to embed the influencer brand into the very product those influencers are promoting is the most effective application of vertical integration we’ve seen in a long time. This is synergy at its best and conceptually it’s really innovative!
Waffle Smash has added collectible cards to the game. In addition to the in-game collectible cards, there are in-game collectible cards that feature influencers interacting with the characters in the game in comic ways. Every time a player beats a level with a 3-star victory, they earn a card. Sometimes these cards feature influencers. Influence cards, in addition to being collectable and potentially valuable, contain a code that allows players to enter the contest. This is the first time we’ve seen mobile games incorporate their advertising partners into the product itself.
