As we move into spring and things continue to heat up outside, the same can be said for the rap game with some hot new music releasing this week. The long-awaited album from a top lyricist has finally arrived, the XXL The 2022 Best New Artist of the Year winner presents a new project, one of Quality Control Music’s brightest talents hits us with a sequel to a popular mixtape and more.
After just announcing her release date this Monday, April 18, Pusha T is swinging for the fences with her new album, It’s almost dry. The album comes after Pusha T’s classic 2018 LP, Daytona. The new 12-track release features production duties split 50/50 between Kanye West and Pharrell, who provided beats on six songs each. Pusha T’s fourth solo album is led by previously released singles “Diet Coke” and “Neck & Wrist,” which feature Pharrell on the hook and a widely hyped verse from Jay-Z. It’s almost dry boasts other notable appearances from artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Don Toliver, and Push’s brother, former Clipse No Malice rhymer. Besides producing the GOOD Music release, Kanye West is also providing vocals on two songs, one of which, “Rock N Roll,” made headlines on Tuesday (April 19) due to it featuring also Kid Cudi despite his ongoing beef with Ye.
Blxst has dropped its first project since being crowned Best New Artist of the Year in the XXL Awards 2022. Before you leave is the 2021 XXL Freshman’s second solo effort since 2020 No love lost and comes on the heels of Sixtape 2, Blxst’s joint offering alongside Bino Rideaux. The new 13-track project includes two singles released earlier this year, “About You” and “Sometimes” featuring Zacari, both of which complement the smooth, melodic sound the Los Angeles rap-crooner has become known for. Other appearances on Before you leave include Rick Ross, Arin Ray and Grandmaster Vic. Ahead of its release, Blxst heavily promoted the project on social media with footage of him and his team putting the finishing touches on the songs, an artistic approach to the track listing unveiling, and a well-produced cinematic trailer.
Despite being arrested for possession of firearms and drugs last week, Bankroll Freddie is back with From trap to rap 2. The project follows that of 2021 Big Bank and is a sequel to his first project of 2020, From trap to rap. The Quality Control rapper’s latest effort is led by two singles that have both dropped over the past month: “Broke ASF” as well as “Pickin’ Sides.” The latter was produced by Foreverolling and features a guest appearance by Icewear Vezzo.
