We will continue to work for Assam’s progress, says PM Modi as BJP dominates polls

Calling the BJP victory in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) polls historic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that the party would continue to work for the progress of Assam.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday evening, Modi said: “Historic results in Karbi Anglong! I thank people for their continued faith in the BJP and assure them that we will continue to work for the progress of Assam. The efforts of the BJP Karyakartas have been outstanding. Kudos to them.”

Modi’s statement was in reaction to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s tweet earlier in the day, in which he said, “We bow to the people of Karbi Anglong for donating to @BJP4Assam a landmark tenure in KAAC polls for the second time in a row After wins in urban corps and GMC polls, this huge win is a true affirmation of public confidence in Prime Minister Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji’s vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vishwas.

“This unprecedented tenure has given us an even greater responsibility to meet people’s expectations. Under the leadership of Prime Minister of Adarniya, Adarniya HM Shri @AmitShah ji & Adarniya @BJP4India Adhyaksh Shri @JPNadda ji, we will work for the overall growth and development of Karbi Anglong.”

The BJP swept the KAAC polls on Sunday, winning all 26 seats in the tribal body for which polling was held on June 8.

According to the State Election Commission, BJP candidates won all 26 seats while Congress was runners-up in the majority of seats.

The BJP, which contested all 26 seats, won 2,25,999 votes while the Congress, which won 24 seats, managed 60,760 votes and the Aam Aadmi party, which contested 10 seats, won 15,513 votes.
