What is NBA 2K23 Next-Gen, and will it be on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2022?
That’s the question fans are asking after the announcement of the annual release across multiple platforms.
And with so many different builds available to buy and add-ons to consider, it helps to know exactly what you’re getting when the final product hits the shelves.
What is NBA 2K23 Next-Gen?
Visual concepts is now releasing two different versions of its annual basketball game release, following the launch of the latest consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Next-gen NBA 2K23 will be the version of the game that offers the best performance and visual fidelity, and generally includes a more complex world to explore. Last-gen versions include PS4 and Xbox One, which cannot run the most advanced version of the game due to hardware limitations.
And while we don’t know exactly what’s in store for NBA 2K23, we do know that the PC and Nintendo Switch versions of the game won’t be next-gen. This makes sense for the handheld console, as it’s known to be less powerful than the PS4 and Xbox One.
But some fans will be surprised to learn that NBA 2K23 on PC isn’t next-gen, and is actually the same version players play on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. Visual Concepts has confirmed that NBA 2K23 will not offer any type of next-gen option on the PC platform, although this may change in the future.
The full statement from the NBA 2K23 team reads: “Are there any plans to bring the next generation of NBA 2K titles to PC and Nintendo Switch in the future?
“This is something the team is passionate about and will continue to explore what is possible for the franchise in the future. Right now the focus was on optimizing NBA 2K23 for new consoles ( PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S), while ensuring the experience remains fresh and innovative for players on other platforms.
